Of course a non-alcoholic one! If you are traveling to Iran, most probably you know alcoholic beverages are forbidden in Iran from the very first searches. Trading or drinking alcohol in public is prohibited by the government of Iran after the Islamic revolution on 1979 (Read about Iran Traveling Considerations). Here, we introduce a newly rebuild cultural center with an amazing architecture in the heart of Tehran where used to be a beer factory before the revolution. You can enjoy an art exhibition while having snacks and non-alcoholic draft beer in Argo Factory

The story of Argo Factory through decades

This 90-year-old building was once a beer brewery in the 1930s and 1940s. It was abandoned for years. Rumor has it that the only reason, this brewery survived the destruction in the days of the Islamic revolution is related to the story of a commander who lived in the neighborhood of this factory and complained about its pollution. Apparently, he succeeded in getting the court order for the closure of this factory few years before the revolution. After the revolution, the custodian of the Argo Factory, put this building up for auction, in which the Pejman Foundation, a cultural-artistic foundation, bought the building. This building was inaugurated for the first time in February 1995 and many exhibitions have been held in it so far.

Where is Argo Factory located

Argo factory is located on Kooshk Street near Ferdowsi square. It always attracts the attention of passers-by, with its very tall brick chimney that distinguishes this beautiful brick building from its context. It totally worth stopping there to catch the spirit of the old days. You can feed your soul with some art and culture and enjoy a non-alcoholic beer in its lounge.

Argo is about culture and history

As much as it might be a big disappointment to have only none-alcoholic beers on a holiday, let’s consider Iran as another style of getting drunk holiday. Get drunk with the beauty of its architecture, history, culture and folks! As Charles Baudelaire said:
You have to be always drunk. That’s all there is to it—it’s the only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually drunk.
But on what? Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish. But be drunk.
And if sometimes, on the steps of a palace or the green grass of a ditch, in the mournful solitude of your room, you wake again, drunkenness already diminishing or gone, ask the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock, everything that is flying, everything that is groaning, everything that is rolling, everything that is singing, everything that is speaking. . . Ask what time it is and wind, wave, star, bird, clock will answer you: “It is time to be drunk! So as not to be the martyred slaves of time, be drunk, be continually drunk! On wine, on poetry or on virtue as you wish.”
